Great interview with Joe Haldeman! I've always enjoyed his work, and this interview made me like him as a person even more. It was nice hearing him talk about both art and finances as a writer.
Now I need to re-read FOREVER WAR. I always thought Haldeman was being too harsh on the gay characters of his future, and didn't realize this was simply his protagonist's attitude. I guess it worked.

Harsh on the gay characters? I never saw that. Granted it's been years since I read it.
Perhaps I had some sympathy with Mandela's Strike Force in the last part of the book. I had a few COs who were absolute rat bastards - I could easily imagine if they were (from my POV) degenerate how that would affect my perception and the unit's morale. Let alone my willingness to follow them in harm's way.
